The city of Prior Lake prides itself on its park system. More than 40 parks offer summer and winter recreational opportunities. The community has two public beaches, two public accesses to Prior Lake, 16 softball/t-ball fields, seven baseball diamonds, nine soccer/football fields, five horseshoe pits, eight sand volleyball courts, two tennis courts and a skate park.
Most of the parks also have playground equipment. Several parks have shelters, restrooms and electrical outlets. These areas can be reserved for group picnics at a daily rate of $50 for residents or $100 for nonresidents. To reserve one of these areas, contact City Hall at 447-4230.

Made up of eight separate units, the 14,000-acre Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge runs from Bloomington to Jordan, along both sides of the Minnesota River. Nearby Chaska, Rapids Lake and Louisville Swamp Units combine to provide 4,700 acres of outdoor opportunities such as hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, wildlife observation and photography as posted on Refuge interpretive signs.

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum invites you to experience more than 1,000 acres of landscaped gardens, natural woodlands, wetlands and prairie, plant collections, and displays. Walk, hike, cross-country ski over eight miles of trails. Open 363 days a year.
Trails
DNR-owned River Valley State Trail runs along the river (the federal and state governments own various parts of the river frontage being preserved). A boat landing, adjacent to the Minnesota River bridge in Belle Plaine, offers access to the river.
